Metal heat treatment with open flame has been used for many years already, however the basic principles of obtaining a large amount of heat energy by rapid oxidation of flammable gas molecules (burning) and its application to a certain area of the treated item, has not been changed since then.
Open flame material treatment processes do not usually require complex and expensive equipment, power, cooling liquids etc. to be used. Such operations as soldering or heating usually need a cylinder filled with flammable gas and a burner. Oxygen cylinder will also be required for cutting and welding.
Industrial gas cutting is the main process used in cutting of low-carbon steel grades.
This process is suitable for joints in thick and medium parts made of steel or cast iron.
Gas soldering is used for joining of two metal items with an additive material with a lower melting temperature, than that of the base metal.
Flame heating. This is a general term for a wide choice of operations made with gas flame, which do not melt the treated material. It is often used not only for the treatment of different metals, but also for heat-shrinking roofing materials etc. A mixture of flammable gas and air is used in operations, where the heating temperature shall not exceed 600оС. This process is widely used also in surface cleaning, worn paint removal etc.
Gas welding, cutting, soldering etc. A mixture of flammable gas and air is used in all these processes, which may be dangerous, if the operators do not have necessary qualification in handling and storage of such gases or relevant equipment. Special equipment, which reduces the risk of accidents and abnormal events, is also required.
